My student model Yamaha has the double key mechanism.

That is a bit of an understatement. Humungus amounts of air are needed.

My clarinet instructor told me to buy Book 3 from Baermann and start
playing scales like there was no tomorrow. It works. I am only playing
bass right now and for fun in the reading band we had over the summer, I
attempted to play the first and solo clarinet parts occasionally. Made
for some interesting times, particularily in the upper registers.

The bass embrouchure is different from my soprano embrouchure and
requires a ton of work to fully develop it.

I got smart after many years of playing and found a good teacher who had
played bass clarinet at the orchetral level.
