My first clarinet was actually my father's. I can't recall wanting to
play any instrument other than the clarinet. I played Dad's clarinet
for a few years and then he bought me one of my own. I don't even
remember what it was. Dad's was (and still is) a Buffet. When I was a
sophomore in high school, Dad bought me the Leblanc Symphonie which I
still play. That clarinet has been my "bud" for over twenty years. It
is in desperate need of an overhaul. I am about to purchase my first
new clarinet, another Leblanc, but I'll have my buddy overhauled and
will never get rid of it.
