Excellent idea. I think how-to articles especially should be simply
written regardless of the audience and a beginner, regardless of age,
will be unfamiliar with technical terms. After all we are clarinet
players (mostly) not clarinet scientists. Although, I personally enjoy
the technical aspects since I am an engineer.

Just as a side note, the military has a very specific definition of
readability for instructional manuals that subcontractors must use when
supplying manuals with equipment. I am not sure what that is anymore as
I haven't worked with this in years and did not have that many when I
did. But it is somewhere down around the junior high level or below.
