I did not realize that Illinois was such an early hotbed of orchestral
activity! The Belleville Philharmonic (my old home town's orchestra) was
supposed to be the second-oldest PHILHARMONIC orchestra in the country.
Second to New York? I don't know. And I assume the New Yorkers are paid
now anyway.
