Hi Michelle.

I think the easiest/quickest way to get a variety of good music that you
can learn quickly is to get "the yellow books" (22 Woodwind Quintets, pub.
by Southern), assuming they're still available. It contains some Beethoven
(orig. 6tet), several French pieces, and I-don't-remember-what-else.

If you have time to do more shopping:

Reicha (Anton) wrote many - op.88 no.2 is a good one (Classical style)

Neilsen, Hindemith and Barber (Summer Music) are the 20th c. classics but
harder - if you have lots of rehearsal time a movement of Hindemith or
Neilsen would be a good bet.

Ferenc Farkas wrote a set (6?) of Hungarian Dances - I think the title is
"Regi Magyar Tancok" which are fairly easy, short and very effective if
well played. And a good contrast to anything else I've mentioned.

How could I forget Ibert's "Trois Pieces Breves"? And Milhaud's "La
Cheminee du Roi Rene"? Classics of the 20th c. French rep. Let's see: a
movement each of Reicha, Hindemith, Farkas, and Ibert. Pretty good half
hour. Lotta work for two weeks. You could pick easier stuff out of the
yellow books and still get a very effective program, I think.

Save the Francaix 5tet for some other time... not to mention Ligeti...
