Subj: Tuning question
Date: Tue, 16 Sep 1997 03:02:06 -0400

I've enjoyed all the responses to my question about tuning to the
hoboy (check your OED). One reason I asked was that a movie-sound
engineer I know suggested that the reason was because of the sound
qualities of the instrument: he tells me that it gives a "perfect
wave" shape on one or another of his machines -- whatever that means.

BTW, my first private teacher was a doublereeder in disguise -- very
nice guy in Northport, Long Island, name of Joe Harris, who never
seemed to mind that I hadn't seemed to have practiced much, we spent
a lot of time talking about this and that.
