Hello Brain,

Wat you say is just not true (sorry)... The hobo is conical, therefore the mensure (relation between bore
diameter and length of the bore on a parrticular note) vary mutch less do to changing the length than it
doos on the klarinet.

The effect you describe is the big problem with the klarinet (and lesser with the flute) but a whole lot
lesser with the oboe!

I think that it is a historical custom... and do to the fact that the sound of that particular instrument is mutch
more penetrating... (Yes David, and to stop the embarrassing crying...:-))
