I have a CD of Beethoven's 6th Sym with the Chicago Sym. that sounds like
the microphone is up the right nostril of the Principal Flute. Each time
his tone stops after a solo there is a very noticeable wheeze from his lip
plate. I doubt very much that the player next to him can hear it, but the
recording sure does share it.
Recordings can enhance sound qualities - listen to a Pro Sax player live
(no Mike), and the same player with the sound system on. Night and day
difference. Sort of like touching up a models picture (the picture, not the
model;) to remove and enhance the final product.
