It's amazing what changing one letter will do. I think what you and those
who are advising you might have said, rather than "getting a wood
clarinet," "getting a _G_ood clarinet." There are _plenty_ of poor
quality wooden clarinets on the market. "Wood" does not
necessarily equate with "good."

(BTW, I have a wooden Buffet, and haven't yet found a plastic or composite
one which I would prefer to it, but there are many factors which determine
how a clarinet plays. The material is only one of them, and perhaps
rather far down the list of those factors in terms of importance.)
