I recall reading somewhere that even when you buy an expensive
clarinet imported from Europe (buying in the USA) only the two main
sections are imported. The US distributor adds the bell, barrel,
mouthpiece and case.
A good repairer can make changes to suit the individual, e.g.
the key action can be slightly modified towards heavier or lighter.
These are personal preferences that cannot be made at the factory.
