This is the answer to your question, Mark. And I don't want to be
bragging or anything, but this is the right one. I guess.

The Bb clarinet as we know it is also called the soprano clarinet. Now,
take the soprano part in a choir and you'll see a treble clef. Can you
see the link? Why do they use the treble clef for other clarinets as
well then? (alto, bass, A,...) Because it was easy, I think. I have seen
some bass clarinet parts that were written in the bass clef, but like
only 2 times in the 18 years that I am on this planet.

Sometimes, simple logic can do the job!
