There is a wonderful essay regarding a cure for musical metal
allergies at:

I stumbled on it while looking for something entirely different- it
seemed too good to pass up after the recent thread regarding
allergies to the various metals on the clarinet. Clarinetists would
have the advantage that our ligatures fit in a microwave oven,
allowing us to take advantage of the "time-saver"...
