Ifmemory serves me right Robert Stark composed a series of tutors which
gave many etudes to study various clarinet transpositions--someone out
there remember? I do know that certain C parts will work very well on
the A clarinet--you read the c part as if it was bass cleff--not the
octave but the note names--for instance a C clarinet part in C--is
read on the A clarinet as if it was written in Eb--this takes some
getting used to--but it works and some parts go down better this way.
I have a very fine C--but when playing second for many seasons in the
orchestra I did not use it if both parts were for C--the tone quality
was not a good match. Ron Monsen
