Bill, it sounds as if the Pan American was a laminated
composite clarinet. The Buffets are not a laminate; they
won't suffer a delamination (a common failure with laminated
construction). The buffet construction is more akin to
fibreglass construction using glass wool; there is no "grain"
to the Buffet clarinet (fibreglass using glass or carbon
fiber cloth can have very different properties from glass
wool, which is why I'm being a bit specific).
