Deborah,

I don't have much experience at transposing, but once I was in an
orchestra that performed a Schubert overture, and the clarinet parts were
written for C clarinet. It never entered my mind to write out the
transposition because it was a breeze to transpose at sight.

I own a C clarinet -- an old Buffet Albert system -- but I didn't use it
for two reasons: 1) I'm not familiar with playing the Albert system; 2)
Some ignoramus had pounded a nail into the back of the instrument to create
a thumbrest. I carefully jimmied the nail out of the wood and had this
clarinet made into a lamp, which I now proudly display in my living room.
