I'll take Welk, or even Roy Clark, over Mantovani any day -
When I was about 10, my parents got a record player (hi-fi,
said so, right on the box :) along with 3 Mantovani records and Rhapsody
in Blue/ Grand Canyon. They listened to those 4 records for the next
4 years before getting more varity, and I really got sick of
the Montovani sound.

Well, at least when they got the record player, they passed the
family radio on to me, and the short wave bands on it led me
into a career in electronics.

It was also about 4 years before I learned that the tone arm
on the record was starting too far over, and Rhapsody in Blue
started with a clarinet.
