Dan.....You mentioned using tenor sax reeds on the bass. What brand,
strength, etc?

At one time, several centuries ago it seems now, I used tenor sax reeds with
good effect. I tried LaVoz, VanDoren, and Oliveri. The Oliveri tenor reeds
were VERY good for awhile. This was in the mid-70's, but then it seemed like
the quality fell WAY down.

Just for information....I now use a Borbeck mouthpiece, with a Rovner
ligature, and Vandorens. In my opinon, the Vandorens are only so-so, but I'm
not playing bass enough right now to bother doing a lot of experimentation. I
only got the Rovner recently...but I am really excited about how it opened up
the sound generally and took away the "fuzziness" of the throat Bb.
