Subj: Pierne Canzoneta vs. Bozza Bucolique

I got my Kalmus Catalog recently, and looking through it saw an arrangement
of the Pierne Canzonetta for Clarinet and Orch. I remember seeing the
Pierne in my Leduc catalog, and wanted to share an observation - The Pierne
Canzonetta in the Leduc catalog is graded a 7 (out of 9). That rating is
the same as the Bozza Bucolique!!!!!!!!!!!! To me, the Bozza should be a 9,
and the Pierne should be a 6 or a 5. In an equavilent American grading
system the Bozza - hard 6 (out of 6) and the Pierne a medium 4. I think
because of the Pierne having 64th notes (even though it is in a relaxed
6/8), and the grader had no clue of what the piece was really all about.
For those that don't know the Bucolique - it's a nightmare! About as hard
as it gets. Fun to play though.
Any comments?
