Hello, I've been asked to pose this question to all of you. At the
convention, the Sonata in C by Bach was played unaccompanied. My friend
would like to know what evidence exists to show that it was not written
with accompaniment.

I don't have any learned references to quote, but following are my
observations:

First of all, the Sonata in C works quite well without accompaniment. I
personally do not think that the flute part is any less complete than the A
minor Partita.

In contrast to the keyboard parts for the other sonatas, that I am familiar
with
at least, the accompaniment to this sonata is less interesting and not up
to the
level of the flute part. I have heard the claim that perhaps JS Bach wrote
the
solo part and someone else wrote the accompaniment (CPE Bach ?) as an
exercise.
