The low E-flat on any clarinet that has one provides a distinct
advantage elsewhere. The same fingering as low E-flat but with
the register key open produces a so-so B-flat in place of the
throat tone B-flat. I used to use that fingering a lot in the
Dvorak serenade in d-minor where there is a terrible spot requiring
high speed C to B-flat operation in thirds with the first clarinet.
(the scherzo section of the minuet movement).
