I've just rec'd the 1997-8 performance schedule from the Curtis
Institute (Philadelphia) and it includes a performance of the
concerto by George Rochberg that was commissioned by the
Philadelphia Orch. as a "retirement gift" for Tony Gigliotti.

He'll be playing it again with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra
on Sunday March 1, 1998. (More info? Call Curtis at
215-893-5252.

I heard it at the premiere (about 2 yrs. ago) and thought it was
an interesting piece, although it didn't really grab me. I'm
looking forward to "getting another shot at it."

BTW, aprpos of some recent threads here, Rochberg specifically
wrote the piece for the A clarinet, paritally because he wanted
that "extra" half-step (as opposed to a B-flat clnt.), but also
that it has a "darker" sound. (Hey - he said it, I didn't!)
