Well, OK, you asked for it. Here goes. When I was in the eighth grade, I
began playing the French Horn. Each day, I'd take the horn home to
practice, along with the usual lot of schoolbooks. Usually, my faithful
Dad picked me up after school since horn and books were quite a load.
One day in winter, I had no ride so I began trudging home with horn in
one hand and books in the other. It was cold and I had heavy woolen
tights on. With each step I took, the horn banged more heavily against
me and the tights began inching downwards towards my knees. I began a
routine which would become all too familiar to me on that long walk
home: horn down, books down, tights up. Horn down, books down, tights
up. After finally arriving home I swore that the next instrument I
learned to play would be the clarinet!
