to play clarinet was made in the first place. Does anyone else have a
story? >>
I had begged my mom to let me play a band instrument when I was in 4th grade.
(I started playing piano 4 years earlier). However, she wouldn't let me
until 5th grade. So when the band director was showing us kids the
instruments and determing what would be a good fit for each, I was deciding
between flute and clarinet. I decided on clarinet because a girl in my class
whom I had admired, Tomilynne Flower, started playing clarinet the year
before. Now its my favorite instrument (although in college I discovered I
have quite a high aptitude for trombone -- it was so much easier for me to
start than the clarinet. :( I wish the clarinet didn't always pose a big
struggle for me.)
