Multiphonics are multti-pitched sounds using special fingerings.
Breath attacks often work better, a loose embrouchure and softer reed.
The two or more tones are usually unequal in volumn.
Though some multiphonics are possible on the soprano clarinet the
greater effects are on the bass clarinet or lower (or tenor or lower for
sax).
This sounds are somewhat similar to the sounds a raw beginner makes.
The experienced player tries to control them and make them beautiful.
Used sparingly these sounds can add interest to an improv. Overused
and they put to sleep or clear the room.
