Richard,

The teacher probably did not give reed instruction because no one
approach seems to work best for everyone. This is also why there are many
contradictory opinions. Some teachers do give instruction. I don't think
it's necessarily good or bad, just the way they teach. But some get too
comfortable in their own opinions sometimes.
Also, in response to your other posting, what are multiphonics?
