Since you have the address you sent the check to and both addresses
are in the U.S., it would behoove you to contact the postmaster of
both your own Zip code and the Zip code of the recipient. It is a
federal offense when the mails are used and the Postal authorities
will persue even what appear to be small cases. They will at the
very least contact the person personally if at all possible, and they
have other tracing methods available to them.
