I've read different advice on rubbing the reed:
a)it prolongs their life
b)it distroys their internal structure
"a)" is from a book titled "The Reed Guide" by George T. Kirck,
designed to explain the use of Reed-Mate reed holders. From '89, it
tries to explain general reed practices.
"b)" is from a book titled "Perfect A Reed" by Ben Armato,
designed to explain the use of Perfect A Reed measuring device. It
tries to explain the science of reed work and presents other interesting
efforts at reed work not covered in "a)" above.
