I agree, and any student asked if his teacher is truly a good one will
tell you that s/he is. For me, the first criteria is in how the student
sounds.

I have heard a few of Simenauer's students and they sound solid--maybe a
little dry, but certainly competent. Those students of Morales that I have
heard have not really been taking lessons with him long enough for me to
guess his influence. Time will tell.

Despite my lack of (but growing) appreciation of klezmer, I agree with you
whole-heartedly. It is in fact Krakauer's experience with klezmer that I
credit for the sincerity, passion and gregariousness that he exhibits in his
"classical" engagements. His understanding of what 'moves' an audience is
much more visceral than what one might expect from a more traditional artist.
