Matt,

Unfortunately, though, the post scores on some key realities. My
parents are involved with the band boosters, and my mom is on the
board. It's amazing something of the inside info you find out from
those meetings. One of the major things is just how much it costs to
run a band. Bands require support from the school and even that's
usually not enough. During the low point of our band's history, a
couple years before I came over, band was actually taken out of the
school day, almost causing the band program to die.

You have to be seen and be visible in the community, one of the key ways
being football games. People who don't know what the heck a clarinet is
learn is by watching the band march in. These performances bring in a
whole new audience, and hopefully more support.

What kind of raw deal are you getting at your school -- no PE credit??
Our band credit doubles for fine arts requirement and PE!

Incidently, the morons throwing around a pig skin are the reason we are
there in the first place! How many people would actually come to watch
the band alone. Not as many I'm afraid.

Perhaps you wrote a little too much, because some of what you are saying
is valid (I suppose), but I would reread the post and reconsider the
extremity of other phrases...
