While I was in Middle school, I played flute, oboe and piano. I played in 1
band in school, a county honors band, a chamber group and a jazz band. All of
them were with different instruments. If you focus on the similarities
between instruments, it's not hard to switch from instrument to instrument.
You just have to really focus on what you're doing. I'm trying to learn as
many instruments as possible ( with a major focus on the clarinet) and
hopefully become a music teacher. I'm not trying to be a professional on
every instrument I pick up. I just enjoy getting a backround with each
instrument. Some people who switch instruments aren't doing too well with
their current one and don't want to give up because they love music so much.
so they learn a different instrument. How well you are on all of them just
depends on your focus and reasons for doubling. A strong start on one
instrument is necesary, but it doesn't mean they can't have fun with others.
And in response to someone saying there were many examples of this, "even in
the high school level", I'm an example right here. I'm an 11th grader who
plays 7 instruments. I'm not trying to brag, just supporting my point.
