Vibrato can be produced in any way the player chooses. What I was trying
to report was what I believe to be the most widely-held concensus about
vibrato when it is applied to the clarinet. It has been my observation
that a great majority of clarinetists who use vibrato produce it by using
movement of the jaw or lip - in other words, primarily a pitch-alteration
rather than an intensity-alteration vibrato.
