The Air Force Band (Washington D.C.) has a couple of cellos in it. I doubt
that they march with them. In the concert I saw a few months ago, they
needed some extra percusion players on a couple of pieces and it was
clarinetists that filled in.

To me the use of a marching band can be best quoted by the Woody Allen
movie "take the money and run" which he marches in a band with a
cello...........and a chair.
