In a message dated 97-08-17 19:22:15 EDT, you write:

<< I think it's interesting that you start ten-year-olds on a 2 - 2 1/2
Vandoren. I play on a Vandoren 2 1/2 to 3, and I've been playing for two
years seriously, and I'm 16. I don't think younger kids need *that* much
resistance...although Ricos do wear out very quickly. >>

I teach beginners of all ages in Texas and I recommend either a size 3 in
Mitchel Lurie reeds or a 2 1/2 Vandoren. I am not real crazy about the
Mitchel Lurie reeds because I also find that they wear out very quickly. In
my experience the Vandorens work the best for this age group and I have had
no problems with the resisitance produced with them.
