Mr. Van Zantvoort,

I think it's interesting that you start ten-year-olds on a 2 - 2 1/2
Vandoren. I play on a Vandoren 2 1/2 to 3, and I've been playing for two
years seriously, and I'm 16. I don't think younger kids need *that* much
resistance...although Ricos do wear out very quickly.

Bill Hausman,
Since when is suggesting that clarinettists should take up flute or
saxophone heresy, and why? I play flute myself (in fact, it was my first
woodwind instrument) and think that even though a lot of people are
resistant to the idea of doubling (even some *nutty* music teachers) it's
very helpful (as you note) and fun!
