Unfortunately, wishing it so doesn't *make* it so. I've
seen plenty of tears at the solo & ensemble festivals that
I've taken my kids to - here in Michigan, if it saya
accompanied, you had better not play an unaccompanied
solo. They won't even listen to you. If it says 6 minutes,
then make sure you can end it in six minutes. There's
another 20 or 30 kids waiting to play after you - why
should *they* have to wait for you to finish? How would
you like to be the last on the list, waiting an extra
4 hours to get to play? These festivals are hard enough to
stay on-time as it is (most only allot 10 minutes or so per
person, including a 6 minute piece) with the constraints
put on the adjudicators. I *really* feel for the adjudicators,
especially after the same song 15 or 20 times in a row.

Follow the directions, and if you don't like them, talk
to the organizers and chairperson; if you don't you risk
not being able to perform at all, no matter how good you
are.
