I think Matt's comment about Brass instruments not making music isn't
quite on the mark. I understand the point he is making, but the way he
says it really isn't that good. Brass instruments can make music!! Why
do we have them? Why was the brass choir invented? I'd seriously
rethink that statement!!

Of course, the comment that woodwinds make no difference on a marching
field isn't quite true either. While they don't have optimal
projection, they add a different tamber (spelling?) to the tone that you
don't get from brass alone. Also, marching band is most common in a
school band is it not? Telling 40 woodwinds they can't march isn't
quite practical.

Both groups add different elements to the music in the show, and both
play vital parts in the overall success of the show.
