FYI, Charles Bay once showed me the "traveling" case he made for his custom
reworked Bundy contra alto clarinet (which comes apart in the middle with an
Allen wrench) made out two large cardboard mailing tubes. It ain't pretty
but it sure beats lugging that 4-1/2 foot long straight case around.
