Well I agree that you should be asking your teacher but an idea that might
work is Wessex Pastorale by Stock. But definately check with your teacher
or your director if your teacher is out of town. This piece has a long
cadenza in it and it takes some help in interpreting it. Remember that you
want to be successful for your first time out so don't pick anything to hard
just to be a hero. Take into account the nerves that you will feel playing
in this competition for the first time. They really make a difference.
There is another one (if you have a good high registar) called Chrysalis by
Hovey/?. This one is very pretty, maybe even more than the Pastorale. There
is also a bass clarinet solo that I often use with my clarinet players called
Gavotte by Boyd I think.... Just remember to check with your teacher or
director before you settle your heart on anything. They know how you play
much better than ANY of us!
