Lauren,
Winning isn't really the most important thing, and if you go with
only the desire to win, and not to do your best, chances are with this
being your first time you will walk away dissappointed. I know this form
experience, For 4 years I earned superior medals at the Florida
bandmasters assoc. solo & ensemble festival, the one time I went to get a
medal, I failed. the real point of the festivals are to rate your
preparation and performance of a challenging peice. PLEASE NOTE THE WORD
CHALLENGING! You need to understand that this is a learning experience
and you need to challenge your self, that is how you improve! If you find
a peice that is reasonably challenging, the next step is to find a Good
pianist that will help you, and get the music right! I had a bad
experience with a pianist just this last year ( My sophomore year.). If
you work hard you will be rewarded with what you desire A 1st place
medal!
Matt
