I thought that I would stay out of this conversation, but I have to say
something. It is true do not obviously care about taking care of their
instrument and those who want to continue should learn that and those who do
not should discontinue. I think that one point we seem to have left out here
is the parents. I find that some parents push their children, at any age, to
do too many things or the things that they do not want to do. Some parents
would want their child to play piano when the child wants to join the soccer
team, or become an engineering instead of letting their child choose which
major they want to become. For instance, I know someone who is a great
saxophone player, and who has played many of the top bands for the past five
years. He wanted to become a music major but could not because, his parents
wanted him to be a medical doctor. He chose to go his parents way and
eventually quit school.
Alot of the times it is the parents, not always the children.
