In response to this thread on Instrumental music teacher preparation:

As a college music teacher who teaches a course in Woodwind Techniques, I
naturally include content about the specifics of the various woodwind
instruments (including an emphasis on correct assembly of the
instruments). But a major point I try to get across is that the
successful public school instrumental teacher should always be learning
and gathering information, particularly about the instruments he/she knows
the least about. There is no way that the accumulated experience of a
seasoned teacher can be included in a college curriculum.
