I'm a junior in high school myself. I am the tuba section leader (yea
brass!) and the director lets things go in my section as well. A
director can't be everywhere though, so what can you do?

I would talk to the section yourself. That's what I do with mine every
now and then, and I am pleased to see them improving. We've stopped all
this mouthpiece dropping, etc. and really progressed. How could your
band director object? He'll probably have a better section for it.

You can't touch everyone, especially tuba players, but if you say it
positively and as a friend rather than someone talking down they might
just respond.
