Now, now, now, Neil! Don't tar everyone with the same brush! I got my
first R-13 when I was in the eighth grade, and my first A when I was in
ninth grade. My parents paid for both instruments and fully expected me
to protect their investment by caring properly for my horns. The reason
for purchasing good horns was because I started in the youth orchestra
program in the metro St. Paul/Minneapolis area and my teacher suggested
that I would benefit greatly from having a top-quality wood instrument.

I would hasten to add, however, that not every twelve-year-old kid is
capable of proper instrument care. I was extremely motivated, and no, my
parents are not rich!

Just another point of view to consider...
