Good points, all of you.
I am 18, a High School Senior, and have been playing clarinet and taking
private lessons since 6th grade. My music resume is "highly decorated," for
lack of a better term. I understand all of you. I see people in my section
who just don't care (dropping the instrument, picking it up, and not even
THINKING that something may be wrong with it). They don't practice, they
don't clean their instruments...EVER, some even use wooden clarinets outside
in Marching Band. My Band Director is a trombone player, and to give you a
clue, he FAILED his flute proficiency test in college. He is under 30 years
old. I don't really know what he's thinking, allowing such terrible
conditions in my section. I've asked him to go over proper care, but he
won't. I've suggested getting a WW instructor in here to teach it, but he
says no, even when I find someone who will do it for free. I've tried
teaching it myself, but of course, they do not listen to me. Granted, as has
been said, he will continue to learn (this is his second year at my school),
But I will be gone after this year, and I hate to leave seeing my section
look this bad. Advice?? <A HREF@-----.com">E-MAIL ME!!!!</A>
or Re on this mailing list. Thank you all. I just joined this mailing list
yesterday, and it is such a breath of fresh air to see that people are on my
side in this brass-dominated world we call music.
