A 5 year old can play the clarinet if the clarinet is a Kinder Clarinet.
They are available from the Woodwind Brasswind 800-348-5003. I got one for
my daughter - really good $250 plastic modified Eb clarinet (missing
duplicate keys). John Denman is the maker. I would start on that if your
student is under 3rd grade. I have one for my 6rd old (was 4 when I got it)
and she reads notes alot better then words. The kinder clarinet is not
resistant like Eb's are.
