I've always found the Eb Clarinet to be harder, maybe after playing Bb,
maybe not. Still, it seems to demand more technique, etc. to even get a
sound out. I remember my first day I had just made All-State on Bb, and
couldn't get much of a tone out of Eb. It seems to demand much more
precise technique, articulation, and breath support.
Your point is well taken, but I think if it were my son I would probably
wait a year and start on him on Bb.
