Here is one thing to consider when deciding what age a student
should start an instrument: Lung development. Are your brothers lungs
developed enough for him to consistantly fill the clarinet up with air
and not develop bad habits doing so. I have started beginners at 9 and
10 and have recognized a huge difference in lung compacity in just one
year of development no matter how big the child is physically on the
outside.
