My signature comment is simply a reflection upon Adolphe Sax's creation,
designed to combine the carrying power of the brass family with the tonal
qualities of the woodwinds. The way I figure it, one out of two ain't bad.
It is also a comment in favor of ACOUSTIC music. I think the clarinet has
been left out of current jazz largely because it cannot compete in volume
with amplified guitars, basses, drums, and saxes. Which is too bad (cf.
Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, etc.).
