Once at a clarinet conference I asked 2 of the professional clarinetists
there about Stoltzman. They spoke highly of him although they agreed he was
"controversial" The response that I thought was most interesting was "I wish
I had his problems". Glad to see that he still generates controversy on this
list. It sounds like deja vu all over again. Just to add fuel to the fire I
will state that I think he has the best sounding altissimo of all the
clarinetists that I have recordings of. I have several including Kell.
