From: clarinat@-----.com (Nathaniel Johnson) Subj: 2 questions: Penderecki / Busoni (I'm back) Date: Sat, 2 Aug 1997 22:43:24 -0400
Greetings, all. I am back from a 2-month Klarinet hiatus and have two
questions.
1) I am in the beginning stages of doing a transcription for winds of
the Penderecki 3 Miniatures for Clarinet and Piano. I am planning to
compete in my University's band concerto competition with this piece and
supply the arrangement myself. But before I get too far into the project
I want to be sure that there is not another wind or band transcription of
the Miniatures already out there. (I don't want to go to the effort if
someone else has already done a decent job of it.) If anyone knows of
such an arrangement, please let me know, preferrably with information on
how to get it.
2) For my upcoming master's recital, I am working on the Busoni
Concertino for Clarinet and Small Orchestra and I have a note question
for anyone out there who might have an answer or opinion. The last note
in measure 76 is technically a D-flat in the edition that I have, as
there is a D-flat earlier in the bar that carries through. I have
previously played it a D-natural. It just sounded right to me, perhaps
because of the fact that I had heard it that way before. In looking
closely at the piece now, I'm realizing that in order to match the
established pattern of descending augmented triads, the D must be
sharped. Does anyone have an opinion or a semi-definative answer?
TIA and good to be back,
